We are more than halfway through September now.
Yesterday, Jake turned 10.
Recently, I had occasion to go through the stacks of photographs I’ve accumulated through the past two decades. It was a difficult time of reflection; Jake is at once very different and very familiar. He is handsome and thoughtful and smart and mouthy and surprising and clever and bossy and creative. He is a delight each and every day.
I am 6 weeks from finishing my undergrad career.
SIX. WEEKS.
It feels real and unreal at the same time. I can’t imagine what I will do with the free time that I will suddenly have in abundance.
I have started a new collaboration project with some new artists; similar to Reflex, there are 5 of us creating in a single sketchbook. We are scattered again: Texas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey. I am really looking forward to the challenge.
Which reminds me: I owe a Reflex entry. I am guilty of holding the book for too long.
I love seeing your name in my inbox. Congratulations on making it to Jake’s tenth, and on the the bigger picture, right now, of the graduation. You will feel like a bird. Oh, and the free time? Let me know how that goes. I haven’t found any yet. Rumour has it there is none to be found.
Hah, thanks Margo. I keep looking around the house at all the little things I have been wanting to do, but have been putting off. I’m sure I’ll find plenty to keep myself occupied.
Free time! Do Reflex! Make art! Cook! Not feel like you want to hit yourself in the head with a hammer every time you look at homework! Happy B-day to Jake!
I felt the same way in December. We both may have been a little late, but you got there at a younger age than I did. 🙂 And happy birthday to Jake! I don’t know how I missed this. xo
And I should say that I’ve been doing lots of writing submitting and such since then. I took lots of naps for the first time in two years. 🙂 Now ready to make the next move. Good luck to you, Rachel. I’m proud.
