I used to listen to NPR and nothing else in the car. But lately, I have been listening to music again, rocking out like I am 17 and the novelty of driving my friends around in my parents’ car hasn’t worn off yet.

These are songs I think you should try listening to in the car.

Florence + The Machine, “Dog Days Are Over”

Freaky good video. Also astounding is F+TM’s cover of “Hospital Beds.”

Cee Lo Green, “Fuck You”

Stupdendous video. If you’re looking for the child-friendly radio edit, see here. (Goal for the next month: make Jacob like this song.)

A Silent Film, “You Will Leave A Mark”

This song makes me feel the way I felt when I first discovered that there was music beyond Top 40 pop, way back in 1991. Best lyric of the song: “I am of the west / I am fair skinned / I deserve a bullet in my chest.”

Death Cab for Cutie, “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”

Maybe it’s because we’re morbid, but D and I think this would make a great wedding song. Also: I like the way Ben Gibbard moves his mouth.

Dance Movie, “Carjack My Heart”

I don’t know if I should be embarrassed that I’m now getting my music from Degrassi.

Nervous Cabaret, “No Politics No Sex”

The quality of this video is not good, but the quality of this music is astounding. You should go download their stuff. Sex.

Sxip Shirey, “I Live in New York City”

Weirdest shit, but so good. He’s a talented, talented man.

Also, anything by Muse, but especially this, first thing in the morning, on my way to work.

That is all.
