Today is January 22, 2008. Today is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Today’s Blog for Choice topic: why I vote pro-choice.

The biggest reason, really, is that I want to maintain the ability to make my own choices. In this country, so many choices have already been taken away from me: I can’t legally marry my girlfriend if I want to, would have a hard time adopting children in some areas, and could be fired from my job in some states based on my current relationship. I have trouble getting financial aid for school because I’m not taking enough credits, but I can’t take more credits than I’m already taking without a) quitting my job or b) being a pretty crappy mom who is never home. Those are just a few examples of how my choices in this life are limited by the government. So I’d really rather reserve the right to make at least one major choice for myself.

Someone just said to me about three seconds ago:
I hate having my fate in the hands of others.
That pretty much sums it up. I vote pro-choice to keep my own fate in my own hands.
